Writer

We are, and always remain, who we are. That may sound like an obvious statement, but many people spend many hours trying to manufacture themselves into someone else, and can’t figure out at the end of the day why they’re so unhappy.
I had a shop teacher in High School who used a screwdriver for every job, whether he needed a hammer, drill, pliers, etc: the end result was no very good unless it was used as a screwdriver.
How many family relationships have been lost because a son, a daughter, a brother wasn’t doing with their life what someone else thought they should? How many marriages have self-destructed because one or both partners were trying to make the other into what they thought they should be?
I grew up on a farm; I have done farm work, but never considered myself a farmer. I have been a realtor, a welder-fabricator, a dj. I also have a degree in forensic science, but at my core, I never considered myself any of those things. I am a writer. I don’t write because I am a writer, I am a writer because if I don’t get my thoughts, my ideas, my stories down on paper I can’t sleep, I can’t eat: I can’t be.
Are you doing and being what you are supposed to be? Only you can know that. There is only one person in the history of ever who can be you and if you are not true to yourself, that uniqueness will be lost forever.
I am a writer. What are you?
